1. “To My Star”
The drama centers around two individuals, an actor played Kang SeoJoon played by Son WooHyun with a bright and charming personality, and a chef, Han JiWoon played by Kim KangMin, with a very dark and intriguing personality. A perfect recipe for the push-and-pull kind of scenarios that many K-Drama fans love. Their story begins when Kang SeoJoon has to move into the apartment owned by his agency but currently occupied by Kim KangMin due to a scandal involving him in a bar fight with a fellow actor. They had a previous awkward encounter in a restaurant where Kang SeoJoon refuses to eat the food he paid for, a gesture that greatly angered Kim KangMin who saw that as he shot at his pride as a chef. Their awkward tension leads to further confrontations with both characters realizing that they have feelings for each other, try in their own way to fully discover what that meant. Kang SeoJoon tries to express his affection for Kim KangMin but the latter despite also having the same feelings, refuses to accept them. Conflicts turn into understanding and desire as both individuals have to find a common ground in other to live together and ultimately be together. Will Kim KangMin put aside his trust issues and accept the feelings of Kang SeoJoon?
2. “Light On Me”
The school-themed BL drama is one of the breakthrough BL dramas of this year, due to its stellar cast, and adorable storyline. The story follows Woo TaeKyung played by Lee SaeOn a quiet student whom many considered an outsider because of his unwavering desire to not make friends. His teacher seeing this convinces him to join the Student Council in a bid to get him out of his shy shell and help him make friends. He accepts the offer however a very awkward encounter with Noh ShinWoo played by Kang YouSeok, the vice president of the council puts things at risk as he (Noh ShinWoo) is adamant that Woo TaeKyung doesn’t join the club. As the story unfolds, what starts as an awkward encounter and a cold stance turns to deep affection as we are given a life lesson on love, self-acceptance, and friendship while we are entertained by this adorable storyline.
3. “Where Your Eyes Linger”
“Where Your Eyes Linger” is perhaps the one BL that has gained the most attention from K-Drama and BL Lovers and many might even say it started the wave of BL K-Dramas. The story follows two 18-year-old boys, Gook, a bodyguard played by Jang EuiSoo, and TaeJu, his master played by Han GiChan. We have the enthusiastic push and pull storyline that gets us intrigued and excited with anticipation about the storyline. Gook is a loyal bodyguard disguised as a friend of TaeJu who is a Chaebol, an heir to a conglomerate. Over the years spent together, their feelings for one another developed, and although none of them had actively acted on these feelings, you could feel the tension in the stares that follows every movement each character makes. Their story unfolds as time passes and jealousy rears its head when an argument broke out between both characters because Gook went on a date with a girl. TaeJu realizes he is actually in love with Gook and decides to confront his feelings. Gook also comes to the same realization, finally accepting how he truly feels about TaeJu and as he joyfully skips back to their house to confess his love, he is met with another obstacle, TaeJu’s father had found out about their relationship and had ordered his men to forcefully bring him back home in other to send him to England the next day. In anger and fear, Gook fights his way through the gang of bodyguards and pleads with TaeJu’s father to let him stay but he refuses and as he orders his men to beat Gook, TaeJu cried out that he would go to England the next day in order to save Gook’s life. Bloodied and shaken, both characters spend their first and possibly last night together as a couple, thinking of what they could’ve been and expressing how much they wanted to be with each other. Will they meet again? Will they have a chance to live the lives they want together? The storyline is quite interesting and beautifully acted.
4. “My Sweet Dear”
My Sweet Dear lived up to its title as a very sweet and loving K-Drama BL. The drama tells the story of two chefs, one a classic head chef at Laura’s diner and another a modern and trendy new chef who has been introduced with a purpose to replace the old chef of the diner. Yoon DoGun played by Lee ChanHyeong is a brilliant and well-renowned chef known for his incredible dishes at Laura’s Diner. Despite his success, his time at the diner seems to be coming to an end as his relationship with its owner over time had turned sour. One day, he meets Choi JungWoo played by Jang EuiSoo, a customer who claimed there was a problem with his dish but it turns out was the new chef who had been brought in by the owner of the diner in other to replace Yoon DoGun in the guise of a food tasting competition. Competition breeds fondness as we see a story of love and romance develop between both characters. How will Yoon DoGun react when the truth about Choi JungWoo’s reason for joining the diner is finally revealed? Will their deep affection for each other help them keep their fire burning when the truth is finally served? Find out when you watch the drama.
5.“You Make Me Dance”
A drama that has been praised for its gripping storyline. The story follows two characters Song ShiOn played by Chu YoungWoo, an aspiring contemporary dancer, and Jin HongSeok played by Won HyungHoon, a moneylender. Fate brings these two characters from the opposite ends of the spectrum together as the former had to take a loan from a loan shark and having defaulted on his loan, the latter was sent to collect the payment by any means necessary. After listening to his story and his plans to pay his loan, HongSeok decides to give ShiOn grace but with a caveat that he moves in with him. As they both work together to achieve the goal of winning the dance open and paying back the loan, they develop feelings for each other and are faced with the tension of what it means to be someone’s destiny.
6. “Peach Of Time”
Perhaps one of the most impressive K-Drama BL with a riveting storyline. YunOh played by Choi JaeHyun is a charming young boy with a somewhat dark and brooding personality who is finding his way in life as he deals with passing his exams and his distant relationship with his mother who he feels hates him. The only light in his life seems to be Peach played by Karn Kritsanaphan, a Thai boy with a bright and cheerful personality who has been friends with YunOh for a while now. Peach one day decides to take a trip to South Korea in other to surprise YunOh but when he reaches there he is struck with the news of YunOh’sdeath. Confusion sets in as he can clearly see YunOh who seemed to be alive and well but he soon realizes that he can see the ghost who resides in the resort owned by YunOh’s parents. Death cannot fully separate these two.
