There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Mary from the Philippines is the next fan to answer our questions. She is a fan of ENHYPEN and more particularly of HeeSeung! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? Hi! I am Mary, a college student from the Philippines! And I am an ENGENE since day one! 🤣 How and when did you enter the fandom? In July 2020, I saw a video of HeeSeung during “I-LAND” on YouTube. I was just casually browsing and watching some BTS contents/videos, and saw a video of HeeSeung being a selfless leader in “I-LAND”. From that moment, I started watching “I-LAND” and supported him and the other members up until now. What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? I love them because they’re so talented and humble. Despite having many achievements in their rookie year, they remained humble, more hardworking and dedicated to their passion. Also, you will feel that they always give their best in everything they do. More than that, their music and concepts are so unique and intriguing. ENHYPEN is worth stanning for! Who caught your attention at first and why? HEESEUNG! Aside from his captivating visuals, HeeSeung’s personality caught my attention. His selfless and kind personality in “I-LAND” captured my heart and led me to become an ENGENE. “I-LAND” is a survival show, a competition, yet HeeSeung allotted most of his energy and time teaching and guiding other trainees to ensure they’ll do well as a team. Who wouldn’t fall in love with this kind of personality and attitude? 😍 Who is your bias, and why? HEESEUNG! Since “I-LAND”, I have never changed my bias. He’s very talented, handsome, and has a kind personality. When I say ‘very talented,’ he’s literally good at everything - singing, dancing, rapping, just name it, and he’ll ace it! His visual is also out of this world! As if he was sculpted by god himself. The ENGENEs and even non-ENGENEs who saw him in person say that he’s way more handsome in real life and his body proportion is insane! Also, HeeSeung, as described by ENHYPEN members, is a reliable and caring hyung that you can always consult if you have a problem. Plus, he loves ENGENEs more than himself. He never failed to give his fans the love he received. More than these, I also admire his mindset and how eloquent he is in articulating his thoughts. But for the title track, I would recommend their debut song ‘Given-Taken’ for the new fans. This is probably the best and most unique debut song I’ve ever heard. And for the B-side track, new fans will surely love the songs ‘Fever’ and ‘Polaroid Love’. But I also recommend ‘Mixed Up’, and ‘Attention, Please!’ These are the underrated B-side tracks of ENHYPEN. I need everyone to listen to these masterpieces! Can you recommend a fancam, V Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your bias to our readers? HeeSeung recently uploaded his song cover of ‘Off My Face’ by Justin Bieber. His voice is so angelic and therapeutic. I also recommend “Lee MuJin Service” Ep. 16 in YouTube if you want to hear more of HeeSeung’s healing voice.😍 Can you also do the same type of recommendation for the group? You will never get bored watching them! 😊 Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? “Omoinotake naita bun dake, Kono koe ga tsukiru made, Mae ni susumu to sakebu yo, Mihatenu yume no tsudzuki forget me not” - ‘Forget Me Not’ Translated as: “This mountain of emotions, the amount of tears shed, until this voice gets all used up, I’ll shout out “Go Forward”, the sequel to this unfinished dream Forget Me Not.” Are there any words from the members you would like to share? “I want to be more than just a set of skills, or an amazing person; I want to make sure I don’t lose myself. The more time you spend on your work, the less time there is to invest in yourself. And if your work takes over your identity, I think you might even find it easy to lose your own sense of self. I want to be the kind of person who can grow while staying devoted to my work.” - Lee HeeSeung. Source What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life? ENHYPEN is a source of happiness and comfort to me. They help me cope with stress and all my struggles. Their existence keeps me sane. What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying? When we wait for teasers and comeback updates from BELIFT:LAB every 00:00 KST. It’s the most exciting and funniest side of fangirling! Also when we meet other ENGENEs and become friends with them. It is when ENHYPEN connects people around the world through their music. Do you feel there are any misunderstandings, things that are not well known, or any prejudices about your favorite group from other fans (non-fans)? Actually, there’s a lot, but I will just mention two prejudices. First, other K-Pop fans say ENHYPEN is boring, which is not true because they are actually loud and extra, especially SungHoon and Jake. Watch “EN O’clock” as it reveals ENHYPEN’s goofiness and chaotic side. Second, some K-Pop fans think ENHYPEN is only good at dancing which is wrong because ENHYPEN is a bunch of talented young idols. They can sing and rap too! The song ‘Just A Little Bit’ will show you how strong and powerful vocalists they are. And for the rap, they have done it by covering ‘Very Good’ by Block B and ‘Boy In Luv’ by BTS! HeesSung also showed a bit of his rapping skills by singing ‘Camping Everywhere’ by George in “Lee Mujin Service”. Mary’s message to ENHYPEN: To ENHYPEN, the last group that I will stan, I only wish for your happiness and success. You’ve achieved a lot now, but I know you’ll earn more recognition in the future because you guys are so hard-working and passionate! Just do what you love to do, and ENGENEs will always support you. To my bias, HeeSeung! You have been a source of inspiration and happiness for me since “I-LAND”. I hope you know that we appreciate all your efforts and hard work.
